One appointment quickly becomes many, and suddenly you’re trying to make sense of unfamiliar medical terms, testing, insurance approvals, and decisions that can feel overwhelming.Many people find themselves searching the internet late into the night, trying to understand what lies ahead. While information can be helpful, it can also leave you feeling more anxious and alone.You don’t have to carry all of that uncertainty by yourself.Therapy can’t answer every medical question, but it can provide a place to process the fear, uncertainty, grief, and emotional weight that often begin long before transplant surgery ever becomes a reality. My goal is to meet you where you are, help you make sense of what you’re experiencing, and walk alongside you through each step of the journey.

The transplant evaluation process can feel overwhelming. What begins as one appointment often becomes weeks or months of testing, consultations, paperwork, and waiting. While each step is important, it can feel like your life has suddenly become a series of appointments, decisions, and unanswered questions.You may feel like information is coming at you faster than you can process it. You’re meeting new specialists, making important decisions, and trying to understand unfamiliar medical language, all while carrying the uncertainty of not yet knowing whether you’ll be approved for transplant.Beneath all of it is the fear that so much feels outside of your control. Therapy offers a place to slow down, process what you’re experiencing, and make space for the emotions that often get pushed aside while you’re trying to keep up with everything else. You don’t have to carry the weight of this process alone.

I'm waiting for a transplant.

Waiting for a transplant can be one of the most emotionally difficult parts of the journey. Life may begin to feel like it’s on hold while your health, your future, and your plans all depend on a phone call that could come at any time, or not for a very long time.As you wait, your health may continue to change. Everyday activities can become more difficult, your quality of life may decline, and you may find yourself wondering how much longer you can keep doing this.Many people are surprised by the complicated emotions that come with waiting. You may hope for the call while also knowing what that call means for another family. You may even feel guilty for thoughts that arise during this impossible season. These reactions are more common than many people realize.Therapy offers a place to talk openly about those fears, losses, hopes, and conflicting emotions without judgment. You don’t have to carry the weight of waiting by yourself.

Receiving a transplant is a life-changing milestone, but recovery is often more complex than many people expect. Every transplant journey is different, and healing takes time, not just physically, but emotionally as well.During recovery, you may find yourself depending on others in ways that feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable. You may need help with transportation, meals, medications, or everyday tasks while your body heals. At the same time, you’re adjusting to a new routine filled with medications, follow-up appointments, and learning to trust your body again.Many people are surprised by the emotional side of recovery. It’s possible to feel deeply grateful for your transplant while also feeling anxious, overwhelmed, sad, emotionally exhausted, or experience feelings of survivor’s guilt. Some medications, including steroids, can also affect your mood and emotions. Experiencing these emotions does not mean you’re ungrateful, it means you’re recovering from a life-changing event.Therapy provides a place to process both the visible and invisible parts of recovery. You don’t have to hide difficult emotions or pretend you’re ‘fine’ because you survived. Healing emotionally is just as important as healing physically.

At the same time, others may expect life to have returned to ‘normal,’ even though you know you’ve been forever changed.Many transplant recipients describe feeling like they are no longer the same person they were before transplant. Facing a life-threatening illness can change your priorities, relationships, faith, and outlook on life.Learning to live after transplant isn’t about returning to who you were before, it’s about discovering who you are now. Therapy can help you process that transition, navigate ongoing fears and uncertainties, and move beyond simply surviving toward truly living.

But support people need support. Your emotions matter too.Therapy provides a place where you don’t have to be the strong one all the time. It’s a space to process your fears, grief, stress, and uncertainty so that you can continue caring for the person you love while also caring for yourself.
